granny squares

I’m following along with Blair’s granny square sampler afghan.  Here is my week 1 assignment completed.

Here is week #2 assignment completed.  I must confess that I’m using a mixture of yarn weights and fibers.  For me the project is about using up what I have.  Hopefully it won’t prove disastrous when it comes time to put it all together or when I need to wash it…

You still have time to jump in!

Or if crocheting isn’t your cup of tea, why not participate in Leslie Keating’s handprinted fabric swap.  You have until June 1st to sign up.  I waffled back and forth about whether to do this, but I’ve wanted to try my hand at printing fabric for a long time.  So I signed up and my head hits the pillow at night swirling with ideas for this.

  1. I’ve done my first two weeks too! (actually got a bit carried away with week two and couldn’t stop…think I am on 20 and still counting!) I’m using up leftovers too, so it’s great to see yours are not all the same size either…I do love how different everybodys turn out from the same instructions…such handmade cool…

  2. I went on a granny square binge for a bit a year or so ago, but unfortunately I was making them from memory, which wasn’t good, because after about 10 or so, I was told they weren’t right. I was using too many stitches. AND they are all sorts of different weights, blends, etc, so all kinds of different sizes! I should send you them…I haven’t crocheted anything since I made the cargo net for my daughters hermit crabs. I certainly don’t see an afghan in my future….!
